Easy Ways to Make Your Home Feel Cozy During Fall
I only lived on my own for two years of my life. The rest of my 33 years on this earth have been spent living with other people. During my adult years of living with other people, I never got a sense of who I was as a decorator or hostess. It wasn’t until I lived on my own for those two years that I finally got to figure out my own decorating style. If I’ve discovered anything about myself, it’s that I love fall and I love having a cozy home. I’m home most of the day as a homemaker, so having a cozy fall home is of the utmost importance. I want a home where I can feel comfortable all day. This week, I’m excited to share with you some easy ways to make your home feel cozy during the fall season.
Easy Ways to Make Your Home Feel Cozy During Fall
Blankets and pillows
An easy place to begin creating a cozy fall home is in your living room. Besides your kitchen, it’s probably where you spend the majority of your time. If you have guests over, it’s probably where they will spend most of their time at your house as well. When I visit someone’s house, I love when their couch has cozy blankets and pillows. I enjoy being wrapped in a blanket at all hours of the day, but especially during fall. Blankets and pillows are an easy way to add to the cozy feeling while also creating a beautiful fall aesthetic. Here are some suggestions for blankets and pillows you may want to add to your own home.

Candles, candles, and candles
I may have a slight candle obsession. My friends and family all know this. If you do too, welcome! In my opinion, besides music, nothing better adds to the ambience and atmosphere of a location than with candles. They are such a great way to create a fall wonderland in your cozy fall home. One candle can transform an entire space and uplift guests’ moods in a few seconds. A great way to hunt for candles is to think of your favorite scents that you enjoy throughout the season. Pumpkin, pumpkin spice, coffee, hot cocoa, apple cider, leaves, banana bread, toasted marshmallows, old book stores. There are so many different scents out there. Check out some of these delectable fall-scented candles.

Personal touches
I love how different each home is that I visit. They are filled with different decorations and personal touches. This is a great way to create a cozy fall home. Personal touches are great because they represent you and they don’t have to be expensive. It does take a little creative, but I think that’s the fun part. Some personal touches I’ve seen and have personally included are
A personalized bar with favorite fall-themed alcohol
Favorite kitchen utensils in a utensil holder
Hats, gloves, and scarves to add to the aesthetic
Add fall coffee mugs hanging at a coffee bar

Fall decorations
A few decorations can go a long way to create a cozy fall home. You can buy them from a craft store, source them from thrift stores, and even gather items you find in nature. Fall decorations can create such a cozy and warm vibe in a home. You don’t need a lot of items because a few do a lot for a space. Here are some adorable ideas for your fall home:
- String orange lights above your kitchen cabinets
- Add a few pumpkins and gourds to each room
- Fill a glass jar with natural fall elements like pine cones, acorns, and leaves
- Hang up a cute sign
- Set out fall-themed coffee mugs
- Add a fall leaf garland to your TV stand
- Use amber colored glass jars
- Decorate with a dough bowl
Seasonal coffee mugs
If you are a coffee or tea drinker, adding seasonal coffee mugs to your cozy fall home is a fun idea. If you have a coffee bar, an idea is to ground a round tray and stack your seasonal coffee mugs on the tray. Personally, I have a wall-mounted shelf with hooks, so I can hang them to display as each season changes.
Reuse old items
It’s amazing how much stuff we have and don’t realize. It’s tempting to buy new things each year to keep up with trends. However, a good way to save money is to use what you already have. You may not think it’s all that trendy, but it’s amazing what decorations you can put together when you look through what you already have. Creating a cozy fall home does not need to include buying new items every year. In fact, sometimes it’s more fun to get creative with the items you already have. Instead of spending a lot of money on new decorations each year, first go to thrift stores or discount stores to see what fun items they might have.
Neutral colors with pops of bright colors
Fall is this beautiful mix of neutrals and bright colors. There are earthy browns, greens, and creams mixed with gorgeous reds, yellows, and oranges. Homes often mimic these colors during the fall. More than likely, you probably have some neutral colored furniture in your house, maybe in the form of your living room set, dining room table, or what is in your kitchen and powder room. To make your home feel cozy this fall, add pops of color to your neutral spaces. A mug, pumpkin, sign, dough bowl with goodies in it, and orange colored candle. There are many ways you can create some fun in your home with just a few small items.
Decorate your coffee table
If you want to transform a space with ease, decorate your coffee table. Whether your coffee table is large or small, square, rectangle, or oval, you can have fun decorating it. Start with a dough bowl or round or square wooden tray. From there, add some flameless candles and fall elements like pumpkins, pine cones, gourds, and fall leaves. The fun part is you can use real or faux fall decorating elements, depending on the look you are going for. It can be as simple or complicated as you want it to be.
Tiered kitchen tray
Adding a fall tiered kitchen tray creates a nice focal point that you can add to a kitchen island or countertop. Decorating them is very easy. I like to gather ideas for mine on Pinterest, but you don’t even need to do that. You can use some odds and ends that didn’t fit elsewhere and arrange them in your tiered tray. Some kitchen-related items you can add include mini display/cutting boards, coffee mugs, bowls, towels, small kitchen utensils. From there, add in some fall decorative elements to fill in the spaces and gaps. You can easily find tiered trays at places like Hobby Lobby and Amazon.
Create a beautiful entryway
After guests enter your home, the entryway is the first place they’ll see, making a great way to create a cozy fall home. Start with a beautiful table or dresser. You can either buy these new or find them at yard/estate sales and thrift stores. If you feel the need to, refurbish it to your liking. From there, the ideas are endless. Many fall decorations have similar elements in them – natural elements, candles, trays, baskets, jars or vases, and some type of floral or greenery. This post has some beautiful fall entryway ideas you can take and make into your own!
Stun guests with porch décor
Before guests even enter your home, they will first see the front of your house and this might include a porch. There is nothing more beautiful during the fall than seeing a carefully decorated porch. In Pennsylvania, where I’m from, farms are plenty, so accessing true fall décor is pretty easy. Start with mums or other flowers in planters and set them next to your front door. Add a porch mat, and be on your way to finding lots of fun decorative elements. These can include pumpkins, gourds, corn stalks, and hay bales. There are so many different kinds and colors of pumpkins and gourds, which allow you to get creative with decorating. Some non-nature decorations might include a bench or chairs, lanterns, or a sign.
Add a wreath to your door
The final step to your porch décor will be to add a wreath. These truly create a cozy fall home. There are many different ideas for wreaths. You can easily pick one up from a craft store or buy one online. Another alternative is to source materials yourself and make one. This adds such a personal touch to your fall porch decorations.
